Legal ยท Ownership

You own everything we make for you.

Plain-English breakdown of how the site, the domain, and the content work at Local Web Builder. No lock-in, no hostage pricing.

1. You own the website.

Every page, every line of code, every asset we create for your account belongs to you. We retain no license to reuse, repurpose, or resell any of it. If you leave, the work product travels with you.

2. You own the domain.

We purchase and renew your domain at standard registrar cost for as long as you are with us. The domain is in your name from day one. If you ever leave, we transfer it to you. No ransom, no friction.

3. You own the content.

Photos, copy, business information, and any custom assets created during the build or in monthly content refreshes are yours. We do not hold content hostage if you decide to move on.

4. You can take it elsewhere.

Built on open standards (HTML, CSS, JavaScript). On request we hand off production files, transfer the domain, and provide analytics access. You can host elsewhere, hire another developer, or run it yourself.

Why we built it this way

All-in-one platforms (Squarespace, Wix, GoDaddy site builders, the agency-style hosted platforms) make it convenient to launch a site and inconvenient to ever leave. Your design, your content, your domain, and your SEO equity end up inside their walls. Cancel the subscription and you lose access to most of it.

We took the opposite approach as a structural choice, not a marketing line. Open standards, transparent assets, transferable domain. The business owner stays in control of the asset they are paying us to build.

What handoff looks like if you cancel

Email us. We package the production files, transfer the domain to a registrar of your choice, and provide any analytics access you want preserved. Standard handoff completes within 30 days.

We do not bill an exit fee. We do not hold any asset hostage. If you build something at us long enough to want to take it elsewhere, that is a healthy outcome.

What we retain

We retain the right to mention you (anonymously or with permission) in case studies, and we retain access to standard, aggregated, anonymized performance data we use to improve the product. We never retain your domain, your content, your custom code, or anything that could be used to operate a competing version of your site.

Reviews integration

We integrate your public Google reviews into your site through standard Google APIs. We do not store, copy, or republish your reviews outside of your own site. The reviews remain governed by Google's terms and your customers' authorship.

Ownership FAQ

Who owns the website you build for me?

You do. Fully. The design, the code, the content, and the SEO equity belong to you. We hold no license to repurpose or resell any part of it.

What about the domain name?

The domain is yours. We purchase and renew it on your behalf at standard cost for as long as you are with us. If you ever leave, we transfer the domain to you. No ransom, no friction.

Can I move my site somewhere else?

Yes. The site is built on open standards (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, standard hosting). On request we hand off the production files, the domain transfer, and any analytics access. You can host it elsewhere, hire another developer, or run it yourself.

What happens to my content if I cancel?

You keep it. Photos, copy, business information, and any custom assets we created together leave with you. We do not hold content hostage.

How is this different from Squarespace, Wix, or the all-in-one platforms?

Those platforms lock the site, the domain, the content, and the SEO equity inside their walls. Leaving means starting over. We build on open standards specifically so you never face that choice.
